We’re still celebrating our awesome NOLA mamas this month!

Anaïs St. John (Jazz singer and music educator), Elle (8 years old), and Zoe (24 years old)

When jazz singer Anaïs St. John isn’t busy showcasing her amazing vocals at events and festivals around the city, she’s showing daughter Elle and stepdaughter Zoe the ropes!

“I love being a mother in New Orleans,” Anaïs smiled. “We’re able to raise our children in one of the most eclectic cities in the country that celebrates life, music, food, and culture.”

She continued, “My eight-year-old, Elle, is a kind and sweet child. She is empathetic and consistently puts others before herself. When I think of snuggling with Elle, I smile. She attends Trinity Episcopal School, a gentle, generous, truthful, kind, and brave school. I work there as the music teacher, so I get to see her everyday.”

“My stepdaughter Zoe is a strong and independent young woman who has a solid understanding of herself,” added Anaïs. “When I think about the confident young woman that Zoe has become, I smile.”

Words of advice from Anaïs?In order to be a good mom, you have to be good to yourself,” she concluded.

Here are some of Anaïs’ favorites:

Favorite Park:
Anaïs: We really enjoy going to City Park.

Favorite Snowball Stand:
Anaïs: Pandora’s on Carrollton.

Favorite Restaurant:
Anaïs: Lola’s Restaurant in Mid City.

Other Favorites:
Anaïs: We also love walking along the river, catching the ferry to the French Quarter, and going to the many festivals in the city.

We’re still celebrating our awesome NOLA mamas this month!

Tracey Wiley (Citizen Ed and Drive Sports Performance), Everett (3 years old), and Ella (2 years old)

Mrs. Tracey Wiley is a literal “mover and shaker”! As a personal trainer at Drive Sports Performance, Tracey is constantly motivating others to achieve their best physical selves.

When she’s not doing squats and planks at Drive Sports Performance, Tracey “moves and shakes” as the blogging manager with Citizen Ed, “a weekly education reader highlighting honestly told stories about public schools from urban grassroots voices written by people of color who have unique and insightful views about public schooling in their communities.”

Mother’s Day might be over, but we’re celebrating NOLA mamas all month long!

Lauren Darnell (Son of Saint) and Tenzin (3 years old)

As the Director of Partnerships & Programming for one of our favorite organizations, Son of a Saint, NOLA mom Lauren Darnell is not only busy making sure the Son of Saint boys are taken care, she’s also busy raising one -- her three-year-old son Tenzin! And Lauren is loving it…especially doing it in the city she also loves!

“A New Orleans Mother is adaptable and amazing,” Lauren mused. “She explores and exposes her children to all the sensorial experiences New Orleans has to offer -- art, culture, people, music, and food. A New Orleans mom goes with the flow and can traverse any scene, from an outdoor movie to riding a carousel to a party at the New Orleans Museum of Art to miniature golf to live music to street car rides to the lazy river at the Zoo. New Orleans moms get that not a lot is needed for a great time; the city is our playground!”

With Mother’s Day on the horizon (this Sunday, May 14!), IntheNOLA’s celebrating some of our favorite #NOLAMamas all month long!

Cherie Melancon Franz (Thinkerella), Anabelle Reese (14 years old), and Ethan Thomas (10 years old)

As a New Orleans entrepreneur and mom, Cherie Melancon Franz is one busy woman. When Cherie is not running her local company Thinkerella, “a hands-on educational program for elementary and middle school girls and boys that focuses on STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and math) experiments and activities,” she’s busy running a successful household with her husband and children!
