Springtime IntheNOLA with Rocio Mora: Crawfish boils, picnics, and festivals

Written by  IntheNOLA.com
Over the last few weeks, we’ve had the pleasure of featuring some of our favorite New Orleanians sharing their #SpringtimeIntheNOLA things. From educator Danielle Morris to Story Block Media’s Deepak Saini to Jolie and Elizabeth’s Sarah Elizabeth Dewey to social media gadfly Champ Superstar to the New Orleans Tourism Marketing Corporation’s Mark Romig, you should now have a pretty good idea of what you should be doing during the spring in New Orleans!

Today, we have our final New Orleanian sharing her favorites, Ms. Rocio Mora, the brains and beauty behind RisasRizos and a YouTube channel by the same name (which has garnered over 30,000 subscribers in just a year), where she encourages other girls and women to embrace their natural curls (and she does so in both English and Spanish). With two curly-haired women at the #HouseofIntheNOLA, the content on RisasRizos is a welcome addition to their curly-hair repertoire :).
So, what’s a curly girl to do in the spring in New Orleans? “Why crawfish boils, picnics by the lake, and music festivals, of course!” smiled Rocio. “I’ve been doing all three since I was young so it’s become a tradition!”

She continued, “I think what’s most special about spring in New Orleans is the feeling of hope and new opportunities. Dreaded bipolar winter weather is finally gone and now it’s time to step outside, meet new people, and explore more of the city!”

Here are some of Rocio’s other favorites in the spring:

Favorite Festival
Rocio: My favorite festival hands down has to be Jazz Fest because it gives me a chance to see a few of my favorites at once. When it comes to my favorite dish, nothing beats Crawfish Monica. It’s the first booth I visit when I make it to festival grounds.”

Favorite Musicians/Bands to See
Rocio: I’m really looking forward to seeing the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Gary Clark Jr., and I absolutely cannot miss the tribute to B.B. King. The first time I ever saw B.B. perform live was at Jazz Fest...my first Jazz Fest ever!

Favorite Snowball
Rocio: I have a sweet spot for Pandora’s on Carrollton Ave. I’ll wait hours for a pineapple snowball. No fancy flavors, no condensed milk, no ice cream...just good old sweet, sweet pineapple.

Favorite Po-Boy
Rocio: I always get my shrimp po-boys from Parkway Bakery and Tavern!

Favorite Happy Hour
Rocio: Nothing beats Wednesday at the Square. I’m not one for trying to find the best happy hour by bar or lounge hopping, but if it’s Wednesday, you’ll find me with a drink in hand, dancing at Lafayette Square while having a great time with great people.

Favorite Place to Get Boiled Crawfish
Rocio: In my personal opinion, my cousin Raul boils the best crawfish, but I won’t turn down crawfish from anywhere else! So who’s boiling tomorrow?! Send me an invite!

Lil’ Lagniappe
Rocio: I’ve made it a personal goal of mine to finally go on an airboat/swap tour. I’ve lived in Louisiana for more than 20 years and I have yet to do it! This spring, I’m making it happen!
