Kristine Pichon, winner of New Orleans Fashion Week’s 2015 Top Design Competition

Written by  IntheNOLA.com
For the sixth year in a row, New Orleans will play host to its very own Fashion Week. Over the course of a week (March 13-19), designers will showcase their newest threads, models will strut their stuff, and make-up artists and hair stylists will put on the final touches in over 50 runway shows at New Orleans Board of Trade (316 Magazine St.).

Amidst the flurry of activity going on that week, several designers will find themselves readying for a throw down…a fashion throw down better known as The Top Design Competition, with the winner receiving a highly-coveted prize package of retail presence in a local boutique, a manufacturing package, editorial coverage, photo shoots, and more.
Last year's winner, Kristine Pichon of K’PICH, couldn’t be happier about the journey she took down the catwalk last year. “It’s so rewarding to be recognized for my talent and passion,” she said. “It’s been a long road and going into the competition, I was just happy to show on a runway. It was a plus that I won The Top Designer and Yelp People's Choice Awards! Getting two awards was the icing on the cake and I was excited and shocked.”

Kristine’s interest in fashion started as a young girl. “My grandmother bought my twin sister and I a sewing machine at the age of five and I have been drawing and sewing since then. While studying Fine Arts at Xavier University, a teacher approached me about a short design program at Parsons School of Design in the summer of 1998. After finishing the program, I knew that I wanted to go back to get my degree in Fashion. I received my degree, so my next goal was to do a collection for a runway and I finally got the opportunity during last year’s New Orleans Fashion Week. My inspiration always come from within and that feeling of excitement and anxiety you get when you're on a mission to fulfill your dreams.”

Kristine’s designs have been featured in Hemline Boutique, a local clothing store, and she will premiere her newest line at this year’s Fashion Week. She added, “My Fall 2016 Collection, ‘Love,’ comes from a personal space. It’s inspired by the love in relationships and the growth of two people connecting to each other on the path to love. The colors start out vividly, just like two people connecting with excitement for the first time. Then it fades into a softer pallet showing how love develops into something that grows into a deeper connection. You’ll have to come see the show if you want full experience!”

Be sure to check out Kristine on Thursday, March 17 at the New Orleans Board of Trade (316 Magazine St.). and the other events at the 2016 Fashion Week New Orleans!
