Love IntheNOLA: Burlesque performer Bella Blue and AJay Strong

Written by  IntheNOLA.com
It’s the end of February, so our month of love is sadly coming to an end…but not before we present you with our last couple!
Bella Blue and AJay Strong

We can only assume that AJay Strong, partner to New Orleans burlesque performer Bella Blue, must love glitter and rhinestones if he loves Miss Bella Blue!

Together since 2014, Bella and AJay first laid eyes on each other years before in Las Vegas.

“The first time we met each other was in 2009 in Las Vegas at the Burlesque Hall of Fame,” Bella said. “Admittedly, we were both in very different places in our lives at that time, so kindling a romance was not a possibility. However, I would be lying if I said I wasn't completely smitten with AJay at first sight!”

She continued, “We spent a little bit of time together over that weekend in Las Vegas, but we lost touch after that. We reconnected in the beginning of 2014 after being booked on the same gig in Minneapolis. AJay lived in Los Angeles at the time, so we did the long distance thing for about 6 months before he moved to New Orleans in October 2014. We joined forces as partners, producers, parents, and pretty much any other way that you can intersect lives! We have a relationship that reflects a lot of love, respect, and adoration for each other.”

AJay added, “There were instant sparks when we met. I knew my life was going to change, and boy, did it ever! Although I was living in Los Angeles in the beginning of our relationship, it wasn’t long before I made the move to New Orleans to be with her.”

Here are some of Bella and AJay’s favorite to-dos:

Favorite Bar/Live Music Venue
B and A: We love the Jumbo Shrimp Jazz Band at the Spotted Cat on Thursday nights.

Favorite Restaurant
Bella: A lot of our meals are late night and after shows. Bar Redux is our favorite place to go. The owners are so lovely and it's family owned. The food is priced just right and it’s all homemade.

AJay: For a fancy dinner, we like to go to Lüke’s. Get the raw oysters and steak frites. For some comfort food in a totally laid back environment, try Bar Redux hands down.

Favorite Cocktail
Bella: I don’t drink, but PJ at Cheezy Cajun is one of my favorite bartenders and he makes very creative mocktails!

AJay: I don’t drink much at all, but I’ll have a Bullet Rye on the rocks every now and then.

Others
Bella: You gotta get the oysters from Lüke’s, buttermilk drops from Wink’s, coffee from St. Coffee, and catch any and all shows at The Allways Lounge. We also enjoy Vinsantos’ artwork at Deity Arts and Trésor Gallery, a comedy show at The New Movement, and dog walking at Villalobos.

AJay: The fried catfish poboy at Parkway Tavern is probably the best sandwich I’ve ever had. There's also a new spot that opened up called The Cheezy Cajun and it’s so good. Our favorite little nook is Bar Redux. It’s tucked away on Poland Ave. in the Bywater. It’s family-owned and operated and the gumbo is the best!”
