Springtime IntheNOLA with Cleveland Spears, III: Patio bars, Trombone Shorty, and Crawfish Monica!

Written by  IntheNOLA.com
So far, we've heard some of our favorite New Orleanians, like Camille Whitworth, Tamica Lee, and Robert Fogarty, on their springtime to-dos IntheNOLA.

Next up is one hardworking NOLA man, Mr. Cleveland Spears, III, President and CEO of Spears Group. Cleveland is the mastermind behind the highly successful Social Renaissance series, which includes the ever-growing Diner en Blanc, Millennial Awards, and International Fest events every year.

Between running his company and producing those amazing events, Cleveland, of course, finds time to sit back and enjoy springtime. “Spring brings beautiful with it. I love the patio bars, outdoor dining, longer days, and festival season that comes with spring living.”

Cleveland’s favorite spring event is hands down Diner en Blanc (the next one is May 9!), a pop up picnic of New Orleanians dressed to the nines in all white eating, drinking, and dancing at a secret location somewhere in the city. Other than Diner en Blanc, Cleveland never misses a Zoo-to-Do event at Audubon Zoo or Jazz Fest.

Festivals for Cleveland are all about the food! “Where do I start on my favorite festival food? There’s the crawfish bread and Crawfish Monica. And I have to try bread pudding from two or three different places. But don’t forget alligator sausage po-boys, BBQ shrimp po-boys, fish tacos, shrimp and grits, …”

In between all that eating, Cleveland manages to catch a little music. “Between dishes, my favorite local acts are the Brass-A-Holics and Robin Barnes. And I definitely don't miss Trombone Shorty closing out Jazz Fest every year.”

And where can you find Cleveland getting his favorite snowball? “Oh, that easy. Broad St. Snowballs at 1703 Broad; It’s attached to my barbershop. The ice is so, so smooth and they are generous with the syrup. I try all of the flavors!
