Organic, raw, handcrafted food shows up in Gentilly at ‘Bella Nut Butters’

Written by  IntheNOLA.com
Not too long ago, we were riding down Robert E. Lee and saw that Orange Leaf Frozen Yogurt (next to Papa John’s) had closed.

Even though we weren’t completely surprised by Orange Leaf’s closure, it still didn’t sit well that there was another vacant spot in a neighborhood that’s still trying to come back.
But it wasn’t vacant for long...next door to the cheese, grease, and fat that is Papa John’s opened up Bella Nut Butters, offering “handcrafted, organic, raw, fortified seed and nut butters.” Like many of you, we weren’t sure what any of this actually meant, but nonetheless, we were surprised and excited that something like this was going to be available in Gentilly. Organic, raw, handcrafted food shows up in Gentilly at ‘Bella Nut Butters’ | IntheNOLA.com
Founded by local New Orleanian Sydney Bazan, Bella Nut Butters features quite an array of these nut butters: sunflower maca cinnamon honey, almond joy, peanut butter vanilla, peanut butter chocolate, snicker doodle almond butter, and cashew love.

You’re probably wondering exactly what makes these nut butters so much different than say some good old Jif peanut butter. Well, New Orleans, it’s all about the ingredients! And there are two of them in particular who take the spotlight: organic perilla seed oil and chia seeds. Both ingredients are super high in Omega-3 fatty acids with chia seeds being an “excellent source of dietary fiber, and a powerhouse of vitamins, minerals, amino acids, and free-radical fighting antioxidants.”

We have a feeling that Jif’s ingredients might be just a tad different…

Now, we have to warn you that the prices for the nut butters is a tad bit on the expensive side…for example, a 12-ounce jar of the snicker doodle almond butter is gonna set you back $23.99 (yikes!), but remember that you know exactly what’s in these butters, thus you know exactly what’s going in your body…

Bella Nut Butters can be purchased from their storefront (1522 Robert E. Lee Blvd.), FARE Food Apothecary (4838 Magazine St.), Hollygrove Market & Farm (8301 Olive St.), The PeaceBaker (6601 Veterans Blvd.), Langenstein’s (1330 Arabella St.), Whole Foods (300 N. Broad St.) and can be ordered online from Good Eggs NOLA.
