Dine-out at local restaurants June 12 to benefit the animals of the Louisiana SPCA for ‘Pause 4 Paws’

Written by
At IntheNOLA, we love our office pets and consider them to be a part of the IntheNOLA family. Ask our founder, Jeff Gonzales, and he’s glad to admit that he draws much of his inspiration from their goodness…and badness!
And one of our most favorite local organizations, the Louisiana SPCA (LA/SPCA), as well as over 50 local restaurants will be raising money for all our four-legged, furry friends next Thursday, June 12 with their 5th annual dine-out event, Pause 4 Paws.
Pause 4 Paws is an opportunity to dine at a new restaurant and appreciate their great cuisine while also giving back to the Louisiana SPCA!” said Christie Anderson, LA/SPCA Event Coordinator. “Fifty plus participating restaurants in the Greater New Orleans and Metropolitan Area will donate 20% of their lunch/dinner proceeds to the Louisiana SPCA on Thursday, June 12. There are a variety of restaurants to choose from ranging from fine dining to casual eateries. On Thursday, June 12, you can expect to be surrounded by other animal lovers who share your passion for good food and supporting animal welfare in our region!”

The participating restaurants are just as excited to support the LA/SPCA as we eaters are! Chef Sue Zemanick of Ivy (5015 Magazine St.) said, “The LaSPCA has always been an organization that is dear to our hearts. It became even more important to us after seeing the efforts they made during and after Katrina. We encourage people that have maybe never had the opportunity to dine at our restaurant as well as our regulars to come out and support the LA/SPCA.”
Chef Glen Hough of Vega Tapas Café (2051 Metairie Rd.) shared, “Animals provide a sense of joy like no other. They are a vital part of my life and the staff of Vega’s. Pause 4 Paws is an easy way for us to do what we know and do best WHILE making a lasting contribution to the health and management of pets in our community.”
“We have partnered with the LA/SPCA for the last few years on their Pause 4 Paws campaign,” added Chef Chip Flanagan of Ralph’s on the Park (900 City Park Ave.). “Being an animal lover myself, I believe it’s important to support our local LA/SPCA so that they can continue to fulfill their mission of eliminating animal suffering. The funds raised will help them continue to provide shelter, care and basic medical services to abandoned and stray animals until they are able to find their forever homes.”
Headed to one of these restaurants? Here’s what they recommend:
Ivy – “Definitely try the chilled lobster and fingerling potato salad, grilled corn-jalapeño vinaigrette and rhubarb upside-down cake with citrus streusel and strawberry mascarpone ice cream.”
Vega Tapas Café – “Variety is the soul of tapas. At Vega, we have a large menu that appeals to everyone. Selections of vegetarian, seafood, hot dishes, cold dishes and signature salads along with a multitude of daily/seasonal specials will heighten the interest of any food enthusiast.”
Ralph’s on the Park – “I recommend checking out our ‘3 Appetizers + A Glass of Wine’ summer menu and some of my favorite entrees, including BBQ Gulf Shrimp (New Orleans BBQ broth, NOLA Blonde Ale, assorted wild mushrooms and brown buttered baguette), Seared Chappapeela Farms Duck Breast (duck fat potato purée, beech mushrooms and greens, duck, cane and truffle reduction), or Grilled Louisiana Legacy Prime Strip (garlic steak fries, bacon béarnaise).
Christie concluded, “In New Orleans, we love great food, supporting local businesses, and our furry friends. Pause 4 Paws combines these three things and gives the community an opportunity to supporting socially responsible local restaurants while giving back to animal welfare in our region.”
We hope to see you out and about next Thursday chowing down for a good cause!
