A Year IntheNOLA…A Look Back at 2013

Written by
On March 1, 2010, native New Orleanian Jeff Gonzales launched What started out as just a simple website with local information has blossomed into what we know as, a hub for all things LOCAL…businesses, events, artists, entrepreneurs, causes, and so on. Over the last three years, IntheNOLA has remained committed to supporting New Orleans by promoting positivity, showcasing local New Orleanians, and giving back to the community.
As 2013 comes to a close, let’s take a walk down memory lane with a few great highlights from 2013 IntheNOLA:
With our Local Entrepreneurs, Demo Diva Simone Bruni showed us that women can make demolition look good while Erin Reho Pelias of ZukaBaby educated us on the whole natural parenting craze and Brian Levy of NOLA Aikido showed us why a peaceful defense is a powerful one. Not to be outdone, our Local Artists were just as awesome. Bartender Chris Hannah of Arnaud’s Restaurant gave us a history lesson on New Orleans cocktails and painter Ally Buguieres of Gallery Buguieres wowed us by bringing animals to life with her brilliant use of a brush.
We’re not done with 2013 just yet…
The New Orleans Jazz Orchestra (NOJO) serenaded us on Valentine’s Day with Shakespeare in Love and WYES sweetened us up at Chocolate Sunday. NOCCA and the Edible Schoolyard brought us two amazing garden parties under the stars and Spears Consulting introduced us to the Social Renaissance Series that included Diner en Blanc, The Millenial Awards, and International Night. UNO brought Crawfish Mambo to the Lakefront for the second year in a row and we washed the crawfish down with beer from all over at the New Orleans International Beer Fest and the WYES International Beer Tasting, and cocktails from Tales of the Cocktail.
Still going…
The 610 stompers threw down at their Headbangers Ball and Ball Crawl, Christopher Boudy of NewOrleansTech.Net put the power of technology into the hands of our young people at Teen Tech Day, Zoo-to-Do allowed us to support the animals of New Orleans, and FestiGals kept us informed, educated, and toasting bloody Mary’s!
Little bit more…
IntheNOLA was proud to present its 2nd annual Heritage: A Brass Band Celebration in support of local non-profit Son of a Saint, not to mention the Harlem Shake New Orleans Bounce Edition. We also brought you tons of opportunities to sport your Native or Local pride with our Trinity Tees available for purchase while at Fashion Week New Orleans, Bayou Boogaloo, and tons of other great local events. And of course, our founder Jeff and co-founder LaTesha Gonzales proudly announced the arrival of the newest member of IntheNOLA with LaTesha’s new column, Musings of a First Time NOLA Mom.
Almost there…
We thoroughly enjoyed Mom’s Night Out with the New Orleans Mom’s Blog, the awesome photo shoot for the LA/SPCA’s annual Alegria Fashion Show fundraiser, and eating and sipping our way through the New Orleans Wine and Food Experience.
And the places, we ate…lawd have mercy…Dreamy Weenies, Breads on Oak, and High Hat Café.
While welcoming a new member of the IntheNOLA family might have slowed us down a bit, 2014 still promises to be bigger and better.
And with that, we say thank you…thank you for a wonderful year. We look forward to serving our wonderful city and her people for many years to come.
Happy New Year!
