Musings of a First Time NOLA Mom: Gabriel is here!

Written by  LaTesha Charbonnet Gonzales
Editor’s note: LaTesha is the wife of IntheNOLA founder, Jeff Gonzales, and editor of the site. She and Jeff have just had their first child, Gabriel Pierre Gonzales. Join LaTesha as she journeys her way through raising a child IntheNOLA.

After almost a month with the newest member of the IntheNOLA family, we are completely in love and so damn sleep deprived...I’d give my right arm just for four hours of uninterrupted sleep right now!

Mr., no Master Gabriel made his appearance on Sunday, September 22 at 7:06 pm…a mere 23 hours from when labor started (don't worry, I got that whole story for you next time). With our fearless leader’s lips and my nose and chin, Master Gabriel is pretty much perfect.

Like his mother, Gabriel is kind of a serious baby. Not too much smiling, but tons of frowning and questioning looks, like “What am I doing here?” and "Why are these people always in my face?” A couple days after he was born, I remarked, “Nobody told me that I was gonna give birth to a 72-year-old baby with all that frowning and all those wrinkles!” In fact, he reminded me a little bit of Benjamin Button how he’s aging backwards. He’s gotten younger over the last month and nowadays, he’s much more like a 60-year-old baby :).

In all honesty, the last month has been great and terrible, fun and scary. Who knows how many diapers have been changed, onesies washed, bottles fed, spit up wiped away, etc…but it’s all for the greater good! Of course, we’re dealing with questions like: “Is he getting enough to eat?”, “Is he pooping and peeing enough?”, “He’s been changed and fed. Why in the hell is he still crying?” But my ultimate plea to the universe is: “Please don’t wake up! Please don’t wake up!”

Now that everyone’s been properly introduced, you can look forward to the good stuff, mainly the extremely long and painful labor and delivery process, the breastfeeding/pumping nightmare, and the reality of post partum depression.

So the journey has REALLY started! Wish us luck with Master Gabriel cuz we sure as hell need it!

See LaTesha's last posts, There’s no turning back now!, Why couldn’t we just lay an egg?, I'm doing it ALL natural..., and After 8 months, I finally bought maternity clothes.
