Local authors promote new children’s books during Essence Music Festival

Written by  Kimmie Tubre
There's certainly a plethora of superstars and celebrities descending upon the city for this year's Essence Music Festival. But don't think our locals will be left out!

New Orleans native and author Alexander McConduit is back at it again making his rounds selling and promoting his latest creation, Thorn in My Horn. The cheerful, rhyming children's book celebrates the story of a young musician named Louie, who loves his trumpet, and his mother, who doesn't always appreciate the noise he makes with his horn. And Thorn in My Horn has a very cool feature to it, music notes that accompany the words of the story, making this particular book a particurlary special project for Alex. "I wrote a score for each scene," Alex said, "so that if you can read music, you have two ways to enjoy the book."
Check out Alex with Thorn in My Horn and his other books, The Little Who Dat, Who Didn't and Snowballs for All at several books signings over the weekend:

Saturday July 6 (11:00am) at Dutch Alley (912 N. Peters St.)
Sunday, July 7 (1:00pm) at the Essence Bookstore at the Convention Center (900 Convention Center Blvd.)
Saturday, July (11:30am) at Maple Street Bookshop (7529 Maple St.)

Local freelance writer and IntheNOLA's own contributing writer Kimmie Tubre and her mother T.J. Barnes have released their book, Nola Goes to the Zoo, which is the first book in the co-authored Nola Louise Series. In Nola Goes to the Zoo, Nola takes her readers on a lesson learning journey. "In order to get to the Zoo, she must finish her chores," said Kimmie. "It's simply an adorable story with a character 'Nola' that you will fall in love with."

Join Kimmie and T.J. July 13 (11am-4pm) at the Algiers Regional Library's (3014 Holiday Dr.) one year anniversary party with a reading for the kids and zoo theme arts and crafts. Nola Goes to the Zoo will also available in the Essence Bookstore at the Convention Center July 5 -7 and can also be purchased at the Community Book Center  (2523 Bayou Rd.) and Garden District Bookshop (2727 Prytania St.).
