Chef John Besh brings New Orleans to his ‘Family Table’ in new WYES series

Written by
Chef John Besh is one busy man! A husband, father of four, NINE highly successful restaurants, an amazing scholarship program in the Culinary Arts for minority New Orleanians, cookbooks, festivals, events, etc., etc.

If that isn’t enough, Chef Besh has also been busy filming his new series for WYES, a 26-part series entitled Chef Besh’s Family Table, where viewers are invited into Chef Besh’s actual kitchen to cook recipes from his latest award-winning cookbook, My Family Table: A Passionate Plea for Home Cooking.
Food doesn’t have to be complicated to be delicious. Preparing a delicious meal doesn’t have to be an inspiring magical act. Anyone who loves food knows that what makes it delicious is the heart that goes into preparing a memory for those who gather around our family table. On Family Table, which premieres April 6, 2013, Chef Besh welcomes us into his home sharing a little of his life and a lot of his skill and of course his passions of family, home cooking, and Southern Louisiana!
Chef John Besh Family Table |
At his own dinner table, everyone in the Besh family has a job. “All the boys get to play a role in creating the meal,” Chef Besh explained. “My son Luke is the salad maker of the family. Jack does a lot of prep and likes to bake. Brendan and Andrew enjoy eating. What I love most about the table is the things they are liable to say. Once, Brendan proclaimed how proud he was to be Catholic, which intrigued me from a prideful place thinking I had something to do with his formation. I asked him why and he said because every Friday during lent we get to eat crawfish. We peel the leftover crawfish and they find themselves in a pillowy omelet of fresh eggs, sautéed over a salad or simmered in a pot of étouffée. Life is good!”
With Family Table, we get to take an inside look into the House of Besh. “Filming the show in my own home was important because it shows integrity. This is what I cook, this is how I cook, and this is where I cook. Each show should be juicy tidbits of information that can allow people to create delicious meals in their own home using whatever is in season. Hopefully, inspiring more people to prioritize time around their own family table. Thus, improving America one family table at a time.”
He continued, “I want the meals I showcase on the show to be accessible to the beginning chef. That's the point of my Family Table, removing the mystique normally associated with good cooking, making it accessible and giving people the tools necessary to be effortless in their own home kitchens.”
New Orleans cooks and wanna-be-cooks, you don’t want to miss this show! Chef Besh’s down home Southern charm and effortless tasteful meals will be an excellent addition to your family’s dinner time.
Chef John Besh’s Family Table will premiere Saturday, April 6 at 9:30am and air Saturdays at 9:30am and Sundays at 2:00pm on WYES.
