Recap: Partyin’ in the Garden in Hollygrove

Written by  InthekNOwla.com
Imagine stepping through the urban jungle of Hollygrove into a lush garden blanketed by jade green leaves of flourishing vegetation. Grape vines dance along the trellis next to fledgling bushes of berries vibrant with reds and deep purples. Sunflowers hover high over the fences while annuals and perennials decorate the garden with the colors of spring. Everywhere you turn, mouth-watering foods inspired by and prepared with local produce await your enjoyment. Perfectly mixed cocktails refresh your palate with the cool sweet taste of this spring’s crops.

No, New Orleans, this is not something from our imagination or a movie. This is what we literally stepped into last night at the Hollygrove Market & Farm’s 3rd Annual Party in the Garden, a yearly fundraiser benefiting the educational and service programs of the Hollygrove Market and the Carrollton-Hollygrove Community Development Corporation.
Over twenty local restaurants and mixologists participated in this year’s event. Among them was Two Cook for You whose cornmeal shortcake with praline custard and Louisiana strawberries offered attendees a sweet, moist creamy taste of heaven! The green papaya salad with fried shrimp prepared by Nolavore was crisp with a bit of citrus heat and perfectly fried golden brown shrimp. Who could forget the evening’s most popular savory dish from Café Hope? A perfectly seasoned crab cake served on top of a cool black-eyed peas salsa kept party-goers lining up for more!

And what eating experience would be complete without the perfect refreshment? French Quarter restaurant Sylvain provided just that with their Magilus Heated Moment, a blend of Bourbon, Licor 43, house-made Northshore blueberry syrup, orange juice and locally grown mint…Amazing! Every dish and beverage was an amazing experience of local goodness!

Party in the Garden was an experience not to be missed! If you missed out this year mark your calendar now to be a part of this amazing event in 2013. In the meantime, swing by the weekly market on Tuesdays and Saturdays for fresh, local, seasonally grown produce. Support our local farmers and fill your kitchens and bellies with the freshest produce and dairy products you’ll ever find!
