Total Community Action: Helping People, Changing Lives, Improving Communities

Total Community Action Family Health Fair | New Orleans Events | InthekNOwla.com
(InthekNOwla) -- NEW ORLEANS | At InthekNOwla, it's our mission to make sure that we highlight and showcase the positive goings-on in the city amid the negatives that seem to invade our city and her people. So whenever we see something positive going on InthekNOwla, we jump on it immediately.

With that being said, it gives us great pleasure to tell you about an awesome event coming up this weekend, the Total Family Health Community Outreach and Resource Fair happening this Saturday, Sept. 24 at the James Singleton Head Start Center in the Little Woods community in New Orleans East.

Total Community Action, Inc. (TCA), a local non-profit, has organized The Total Family Health Community Outreach and Resource Fair to bring much needed health and family-related resources to the Little Woods community and surrounding areas. Outreach and Communications Specialist Ashley Thomas explained, “Total Community Action is a non-profit organization that started in the 1960s to assist low income families. We have job development programs, youth programs, energy and water assistance, a Head Start center, and other resources and programs that underserved communities lack.”

The overall mission of TCA “is to reduce poverty in the community by providing human services, experiences, and opportunities that move persons from poverty to self-sufficiency.” And with the upcoming Community Outreach and Resource Fair, TCA is providing a stepping stone to enable our community to actually be self-sufficient.

And you can expect something for everyone at this fair. Ashley added, “It’s a total family health fair, so we have services for the elderly, adults, and children. And it was important to us to bring this kind of fair to the Little Woods community in New Orleans East. We all know that New Orleans East was devastated by Hurricane Katrina and that area still doesn’t have a lot of services. So, we wanted to bring these services to them in their own community rather than having them have to go elsewhere.”

The Total Family Health Community Outreach and Resource Fair will include oral and mental health evaluations, vision and dental screenings, aerobics classes, healthy food options, haircuts, children’s activities, door prizes, individual and family resource connections, as well as Job 1, the city’s office of workforce development, and much more all FREE. And TCA plans to bring the fair to different communities throughout the year in order to offer the same resources and services.

So, come out with your family this Saturday to support a great organization and event, and receive some awesome health and family services. In the words of Total Community Action, “Helping People. Changing Lives. Improving Communities.”
