Geaux Fleur It! with Rachael Miller of Geaux Sports Jewelry

The setting: Sunday, February 7, 2010. Miami, Florida. Super Bowl XLV. Saints vs. Colts. And we all know the ending of that perfect night…our beloved Saints put a ass-whipping on them Colts! How we love to reminisce about that day!

Many things were born on that fateful Sunday and one business, in particular, Geaux Sports Jewelry, an affordable and fashionable jewelry line for sports lovers.

Rachael Miller, owner and operator of Geaux Sports Jewelry and wife to former Saints tight end, Billy Miller, knows her sports and specifically her Saints. During Billy’s tenure with the NFL, both she and Billy wanted to create jewelry that represented the team he was playing for at the time. However, most jewelers were only willing to use diamonds and gold, making it unaffordable for many people.

So, Rachael decided to take matters into her own hands. She explained, “The year that the Saints went to the Super Bowl, I said, ‘I’m gonna do this on my own because there’s got to be other wives and moms who really want to have sporty, but girly jewelry that looks like diamonds, but don't cost it. I was able to get a really good deal on a minimum quantity and immediately started on the website, which I was told wouldn’t be ready until April 2010. So, I found myself sitting in the tunnel under the stadium in Miami for Super Bowl and Tracey Porter picks off Peyton Manning and we all basically fell to our knees and started crying because we knew we had won. And then I get a text that said, ‘Congrats, your website has been launched!’ By the time I was running on the field crying and tripping to find Billy, I had 11 orders.”

And as they say, the rest is history. Geaux Sports Jewelry is currently in 28 stores across Louisiana. Only hand set Swarovski crystals and 18kt gold are used in the jewelry, which includes an array of signature pieces. Rachael said, “I have a large black and gold Saints fleur de lis that has a gold football in the center and it comes in a large and medium version. I can’t keep them in stock because they literally are so gorgeous with any outfit. Also, I have a tiger striped LSU fleur de lis that has over 500 Swarovski crystals. And finally I have a Mardi Gras fleur de lis that has a cat-eyed mask in the center and also has over 500 Swarovski crystals as well.”

In addition to filling a void in the jewelry world, Rachael is also committed to using Geaux Sports Jewelry as a way to give back. “Billy affects so many lives and brings so many smiles to people,” she explained. “He’s so amazing and I would think to myself, ‘What’s my purpose? Why am I here?’ So, I decided to do custom orders to help make a difference. I did a Susan G. Komen piece to benefit breast cancer researcher. If I sell a million of them, of which they get 20 percent, I would raise 20 million dollars for the organization. How could just Rachael Miller do that on her own? I never could. I get to use my jewelry line to give back and make a huge difference.”

Rachael has also done custom orders for other fundraising efforts. She said, “I do custom orders with a minimum run of 120 pieces. I sell it to the organization at wholesale price and they can sell it at retail price and keep 100% of the profits. It’s been huge for schools’ fundraising efforts. I also make pieces for families. Most recently, I did an HLHS (Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome) heart. A family, whose daughter passed away at 3 months old, purchased the hearts to raise money for their foundation to raise money for HLHS.”

Rachael is busy at work growing Geaux Sports Jewelry, including getting into all of the Sam’s Clubs in Louisiana and branching out to other states in the future. Two of the newest designs are "I Heart NOLA" (shown above) and "The Key to the City" (to the right.)
