A Recap of Shorty's Night

Written by  InthekNOwla.com Staff

(InthekNOwla) -- As you may know, last night was the celebration for "Trombone Shorty and Orleans Avenue" album release entitled "Backatown". The group just signed to Universal's Verve Music Group and includes collabos with big names such as multi-platinum selling, Grammy Award winning musician Lenny Kravitz; legendary composer Allen Toussaint; and Marc Broussard.

The night was a total success. Ton's of people from all walks of New Orleans showed up to show support and to groove to the sounds of performances from Rebirth Brass Band, Free Agents Brass Band, and Hot 8 Brass Band to name a few.

Of course Trombone Shorty and Orleans Ave. headlined the night and brought the house down. Their music captures our culture so vividly that one cannot help finding themselves swaying to the beat and singing along to the lyrics, even if you have no rhythm or can't sing a lick. This is the essence of New Orleans.

The night rounded out with a painting from 2-Cent's Brandan Odums being auctioned off. The painting, entitled "The Past and The Future", depicted Louis Armstrong and a young Trombone Shorty facing each other with instruments in play. This beautiful piece by Mr. Odums finally sold for over $1000.00 that went to benefit Derricks Tabb's "The Roots of Music" which serves to fill the music education void in the city.

The night was wonderful and we throughly enjoyed ourselves. Thanks to Privilege Nola and Missing Link PR for allowing us to cover the event. You can grab Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue's new album, Backatown on iTunes HERE!
