Whitney Zoo-To-Do at the Audubon Zoo

Written by  InthekNOwla.com Staff

(InthekNOwla) -- Last week, InthekNOwla got to attend the Zoo-to-Do for Kids at the Audubon Zoo. And we told you how much fun we had. Well, this Friday we went to the "adult" Zoo-To-Do presented by Whitney. And lemme tell you, we already trying to put down the dates for next year's Zoo-To-Do!

Because we had been to the Kids Zoo-To-Do, we thought we knew what to expect...food, fun, music, people, drinks, etc. But nothing could have prepared us for what actually awaited us. Friday, May 7, the zoo was closed in order to transform it into what it would become that night...and we were not disappointed in the least. The trees glowed with different colors, the elephant fountain in the very beginning of the zoo looked like something out of the movie, Madagascar, and the people...the people were dressed to the nine's in their tuxedos, linen suits, cocktail dresses, elegant gowns, and so forth and so on.

Now, before we did any dancing, we had to sample the array of food...and what an array it was: Strawberry and blackberry crepes made right in front of you; gumbo "shots" (no spoons needed...just take it to the head!); mar-GO-ritas that looked like Capri Sun drinks for adults; lobster tails in a light, butter sauce, and strawberries drizzled with chocolate from The Melting Pot; thin-fried catfish filets from New Orleans Hamburger & Seafood Company...and on and on and on and on! And once we'd had our fill of food and drink, we were treated to the sounds of Sister Sledge who had everybody dancing til midnight!

Like last week's events, the proceeds from this year's Zoo-To-Do will be used in the construction of "a wet and wild splash park" called the "Cool Zoo." In the Cool Zoo, people will be "surrounded by jumping water, a spider monkey soaker, water spitting snake statues and a giant alligator slide, just to name a few" (from Zoo-To-Do Events).

In the past, Zoo-To-Do has been voted the best Fundraiser Event by New Orleans Magazine and we can definitely see why! Be sure to be on the look out for next year's Zoo-To- Do.
