Bourbon & Burlesque at the CAC

Written by  InthekNOwla.com Staff

(InthekNOwla) -- NEW ORLEANS | What a sultry and sexy city we live in...from the scrumptious and mouth-watering food to the luscious and savory drinks to the heavenly and exquisite music right on the down to the voluptuous and luxurious women (did we use enough adjectives for you :). Well, InthekNOwla experienced of all these things at Bourbon & Burlesque, a fundraiser for the Contemporary Arts Center.

Now usually, the CAC is a normal place with gorgeous art work on the walls and various theater performances. But, last week, the CAC was transformed to an adult playground, complete with stripper pole acrobats, burlesque names for attendees, aerial striptease, a burlesque photo booth, and a cigar parlor courtesy of the Cigar Factory New Orleans. And what a night it was indeed!

Before getting to the nitty-gritty, we got our burlesque names first (or at least one of us did)...so be on the look out for "Perky DeVille" in the future! And then we proceeded to eat, drink, and mingle before the show. The cocktails and cuisines were provided by Dickie Brennan's Bourbon House. We feasted on bourbon BBQ shrimp, blackened tuna, duck crepes, pudding with boubon sauce, lemon meringue, and tons of others. And to wash all of this done, of couse we had some bourbon, mint juleps, and sazerac. All of this going on while perusing the art work on the walls and the various peep shows, stripteases, etc, etc. Again, what a great time!

Now, our definite favorites of the night were the two burlesque reviews by dancers from variouos burlesque troupes, for example: Shim Shamettes, Storyville Starlettes, Slow Burn, Fleur de Tease, Billion Dollar Babydolls, Sin Lillies, and Haus of Vigilante. Some of our favorites were Saturn Spin, in her suit and tie performing to "It's a Man's, Man's World," Roxie Le Rouge in her fabulous and flowing pink outfit, Kitty Twist in "Barbarella," Nona Narcisse and Roulette Rose as "Transformers," and finally Trixie Minx, Madame Mystere, and Bella Blue in their gorgeous and more traditional performance to "Creole Love Song."

For those of you who haven't been to a burlesque show yet, lemme tell you, you are definitely missing out! Be forewarned however...burlesque is a celebration of the female body and sexuality and what a beautiful celebration it was! So there is no need to be shy here!

We can't wait for next year's Bourbon and Burlesque...in the meantime, I think one of us might try to find some burlesque classes to take...you might be seeing Miss Perky DeVille on the big screen one day!
