Gentilly Fest 2010 Summer Jam

Written by  InthekNOwla.com Staff

(InthekNOwla) -- NEW ORLEANS | Now don't nobody know Gentilly like InthekNOwla knows Gentilly...St. Roch, Franklin, St. James, Mirabeau, Robert E. Lee, Vasquez, Paris, Filmore...we know Gentilly like the back of our hands. So of course, it was imperative that we go to the Gentilly Fest 2010 Summer Jam at Sweet Lorraine's Jazz Club. The Gentilly Fest Summer Jam is a fundraiser for the actual Gentilly Fest which will take place October 9th and 10th at Ponchartrain Park Playground.

Gentilly Fest is free to the public and celebrates all things 'Gentilly,' including continuous live music on the main stage and gospel tent, sumptuous food from a variety of local restaurants & caterers and fine arts and crafts for sale. There will be activities for children including pony rides, a kids stage, and a variety of practical recovery information offered by local non-profit organizations. Additionally, Gentilly Fest donates a portion of all proceeds from each festival to the Police, Fire, EMS, children's music camps and other New Orleans organizations that need help.

The Gentilly Fest Summer Jam that we attended was a fundraiser for the Gentilly Festival and featured great food, entertainment, and company to celebrate and support an even greater community and neighborhood. There were several gorgeous pieces of art work by Varion Laurent that were auctioned off as well as several other great prizes and raffles. And the music was nothing short of phenomenal. From the rapper Dr. Drew to the Booty Trove Brass Band, we were clapping our hands and stomping our feet from the beginning till they had to put us out! Also in attendance was the effervescent and crazy (of course that good New Orleans crazy) Wanda Rouzan, the charming and elegant Troi Bechet, and the beautiful, extremely talented, and charismatic Arianne "The Creole Cutie" Deruise, who rocked the house and made to sure to hype up the audience with crowd participation and a mix of great classics and original works, including an a cappella ballad from Cinderella. And just when you thought it was all over, Ms. Germaine Bazzle stepped up on stage and made all of us wish we could sing jazz! Rounding out the great entertainment for the evening was singer and saxophonist, Mr. Chucky C., singing the blues and having everybody cracking up in between.

Now remember, all of this was only at the Summer Jam...just imagine what's gonna be at the Gentilly Fest itself! So be sure to mark October 9 and 10 in your calendars and come enjoy yourselves!
