Cointreau Presents Dita Von Teese at Tales of the Cocktail

Written by  InthekNOwla.com Staff

(InthekNOwla) -- NEW ORLEANS | If you don't know who Dita Von Teese is, then you need to google her ASAP. Widely known as the "Queen of Burlesque," Miss Von Teese gave the performance of a lifetime on Tuesday at the House of Blues for the kickoff of Tales of the Cocktail this week. Tales of the Cocktail is a "celebration of New Orleans' cocktail culture"...absinthe, gin, vodka, whiskey, tequila, and rum cocktails combined with history seminars, mixing demonstrations, bartender competitions, tasting rooms, spirited dinners (and of course much much more)...all in celebration of the history and artistry of making drinks."

Dita Von Teese's performance was presented by the liqueur Cointreau with their "Be Cointreauversial" campaign and was the perfect mix of sexiness, sultriness, and seductiveness. Miss Von Teese hadn't performed in New Orleans in over ten years, but on Tuesday, it was like she was home. She dazzled the crowd with her performances, men and women alike! Her first number had her climbing into a huge Martini glass full of water where she proceeded to frolic and play in it including dousing herself with water from a huge sponge. Next, she climbed out of what looked like a Swarovski encrusted compact with life-size powder puffs that she used to powder up her already flawless body. In her final Asian-inspired performance of the evening, Dita again had us mesmerized by her beauty. We didn't take our eyes off of her ALL NIGHT!

Dita is the epitome of femininity...perfectly coiffed hair, curvaceous body, impeccable make up, exquisite costumes, and an undeniable air of confidence and vanity...basically telling everybody, "Yes, I KNOW I look good and YOU know it too!" The show was MC'ed by Mr. Murray Hill, a well-known New York comedian, and featured other burlesque performers, including Miss Selene Luna, a 3'10" red hot firecracker, Miss Coco Lectric, a great beauty and talented pasty-mover from Texas, and Mr. Duke Lafayette, a surprising male performer in a sea of women.

But there was one performer who BROUGHT THE HOUSE DOWN...Miss Perle Noire, a local burlesque performer with Bustout Burlesque. When Miss Noire finished her performance, we had to cover our ears because the crowd was so loud! Perle Noir won last year's "Queen of Burlesque" at the New Orleans Burlesque Festival 2009 and we can definitely see why. Miss Noir moved her body from the time she got onstage til the time she left and the audience ate it up! And when she stepped out in a banana skirt à la Josephine Baker, we were done...grinding, swinging, rotating, gyrating, kicking, jumping, writhing, etc, etc...WE were out of breath by the end!

New Orleans is such a sexy and sultry city that it was able to contain all of this without exploding. During its heyday, burlesque was one of the main attractions in the French Quarter and slowly but surely, it's making its way back with burlesque companies like Bustout Burlesque, Fleur de Tease, Slow Burn Burlesque, and several others. So if you ever get the chance, you GOTTA check out a burlesque show and if Dita is ever back here again...wait, we still need to come off our high from that night before we think about Dita again. I don't know if our hearts could take it too soon!
