WORN AGAIN nola4 Benefit and Fashion Show

Written by  InthekNOwla.com Staff

(InthekNOwla) -- NEW ORLEANS | Saturday night at The Howlin' Wolf was a night of fashion...avant garde, haute couture, recycled fashion. Wait, wait, wait a quick minute...did you say "recycled" and "haute couture" in the same sentence, InthekNOwla? Why yes...yes, we most certainly did!

See, Saturday night, we were extremely priviledged to be part of the WORN AGAIN nola4 benefit and fashion show. WORN AGAIN pairs talented designers with a bag full of "craptastic recycled materials to sew mind-blowing works of wearable art." And these pieces most definitely blew our minds ranging from the very simple and sophisticated to the in-your-face and extravagant. What a night of creative spirits and truly unique fashion! We saw gorgeous ladies' dresses fit for moseying through town and high fashion almost costume-like pieces just waiting for the right party to strut into. And did we mention that they were RECYCLED??? In no way shape or form would anyone have been able to tell that these pieces weren't from the latest Vogue, Cosmopolitan, or Harper's Bazaar. These pieces were exremely well-designed and presented with the perfect hair, make up, and accessories to accentuate each design.

Now, WORN AGAIN is not just a fashion show for you to slobber and salivate over. WORN AGAIN's "goal is to raise public awareness regarding recycled materials while celebrating progressive creative communities." Additionally, each year WORN AGAIN supports a local non-profit in their endeavors. This year's show benefitted Press St., a "literary and visual arts collective formed in 2005 to promote art and literature in the community through events, publications and arts education." Press St. provides various outlet for artists and non-artists to develop and showcase their creativity, such as the 24-hour drawing extravanganza Drawathon, and the Antenna Gallery to show contemporary art pieces.

Of course, with any fashion show, there is always great music...and we were not disappointed. DJ Kristen got the party started with her array of  classics that EVERYBODY knows, you know James Brown's "Papa's Got a Brand New Bag", The Dixie Cups "Iko Iko", The Isley Brothers "Shout", and Huey "Piano" Smith and the Clowns "Don't You Just Know It"...we can only imagine how much fun it was to be young in those days. For the fashion show itself, DJ Brice Nice provided the melodies while MC Chris Lane introduced each of the designs and models.

We cannot wait for next year's WORN AGAIN which we're sure we will be even bigger and better...you think we might be able to model too......
