Help ‘Girls on the Run’ win $25,000 with State Farm Neighborhood Assist’s program

Written by  Girls on the Run
Communities across the United States answered the call from State Farm® to submit causes that would make a positive impact in their neighborhoods. Now, Girls on the Run New Orleans needs your help by voting for them to bring money to their community. From Oct. 26 through Nov.4, anyone with a valid email address can vote for Girls on the Run New Orleans to help bring $25,000 to New Orleans.

Two thousand submissions were received through State Farm Neighborhood Assist, a crowd-sourced philanthropic program that empowers communities to identify issues in their neighborhoods. At least one cause was received from every state. The State Farm Youth Advisory Board, a group of 30 students who are passionate about social responsibility, reviewed the submissions and selected the top 200 finalists based on criteria they created.
Louisiana has three causes in the top 200. In New Orleans, an organization called Girls on the Run New Orleans wants to further its mission of inspiring girls to recognize their inner strength and celebrate what makes them one of a kind. Trained coaches lead small teams through our research-based curricula, which includes dynamic discussions, activities and running games. Over the course of the ten-week program, girls in 3rd-8th grade develop essential skills to help them navigate their worlds and establish a lifetime appreciation for health and fitness. The program culminates with girls positively impacting their communities through a service project and being physically and emotionally prepared to complete a celebratory 5K event.

The 200 causes have until Nov.4 to rally votes and anyone voting is allowed up to 10 votes per day. On Nov. 30, the top 40 vote-receiving causes will be announced and a $25,000 grant will be awarded to the affiliated nonprofits. $25,000 is funding for 100 girls to participate in the Girls on the Run program.

“Neighborhood Assist is another example of State Farm helping life go right in communities all across the U.S. said Kellie Clapper, State Farm Assistant Vice President. “The communities themselves play an important role in inspiring people to rally and vote for these important causes.”
