The scoop: In 1971, the Gay Liberation Front of New Orleans hosted its first event—a “gay in” picnic—that took place at City Park. Several other LGBT events followed, and starting in 1978, the gay pride celebration became an annual occurrence.

The NOLA Pride festivities as we know them today focus on creating a safe and supportive environment for the LGBT communities and their allies to celebrate and embrace diversity. Take a look at our guide below for tips and recommendations on the best ways to show your pride this June in New Orleans:

Time: 8 p.m.
Fee: General admission and VIP tickets are available for purchase
Location: The Joy Theater
 
Transportation: The theater is within walking distance of the French Quarter and located along the Canal Street streetcar line.
 
Fast facts: Bianca Del Rio, RuPaul’s Drag Race season six winner, is hosting an event to get everyone in the Pride frame of mind. We 3 Queens, MILK The Queen, and Mr. and Miss. New Orleans Pride, among other special guests, will be joining the “Queen of Mean” on stage for a raunchy evening of laughs. Doors open at 7 p.m.
