Calling all beer lovers! Two WYES beer tastings at one great venue – Mardi Gras World!

Written by  WYES
Calling all beer lovers! Join WYES-TV, local and national beer companies, and home brewers for two nights of beer sampling, beer talk and food – June 13 & 14, 2014 at Mardi Gras World (1380 Port of New Orleans Pl.). On both nights, guests will be guided through Mardi Gras World’s famous float den before the beer sampling begins!

Enjoy the 6th annual WYES Private Beer Sampling on Friday, June 13 from 7:00pm to 10:00pm in Mardi Gras World’s Grand Oaks Mansion Room for $50 per person. Sample over 90 plus craft brewed beers, specially made cask and home brewed beers, as well as special one-off beers from local and national breweries. Sample rare beers that you might not have the chance to sample again! There will be brew masters on-hand to talk about the craft and imported beers. Guests will receive a tasting glass and complimentary food provided by Chef Tom Hinyup of Sun Ray Grill. Savor Thai riblets, sesame coleslaw, Cuban sandwiches and guacamole served with blue corn chips.
Be sure not to miss The Bruery's Saison Rue, Tin Roof’s Puckerup Flemish – a soured version of their Perfect Tin Amber Ale; Sweetwater's Happy Ending Imperial Stout; Saint Arnold’s Boiler Room, which is not sold in Louisiana; Taormina Collaboration Milk Stout, a collaboration with The Covington Brewhouse and home brewers; Green Flash's Road Warrior; Sierra Nevada's Bigfoot; and Rebirth Pale Ale, NOLA Brewing’s latest addition that benefits Roots of Music.

Then on Saturday, June 14 from 6:00pm to 9:00pm in the River City Ballroom at Mardi Gras World, join Louisiana’s largest beer event – the 31st annual WYES International Beer Tasting. Attendees can choose to sample over 275 ales, lagers, stouts, IPAs, home brews and more. For Saturday’s tasting only, a designated driver ticket is available for $15 (includes food and beverage), plus, new this year, Northshore folks have the option to purchase a round-trip bus ticket for $10. Pick up is at the commuter parking lot at the Old Mandeville Trailhead (675 Lafitte St.) in Mandeville.

At Saturday’s WYES International Beer Tasting, The Chartres House will provide, for free, some tasty treats. Guests may purchase tasty dishes from – Foodie Call, Rue Chow, Dat Dog and Mellow Mushroom. Prices vary from $4 to $8. Stop at the Cigar Factory New Orleans’ table to purchase a fine, hand-rolled cigar.

On both nights, guests will receive a complimentary beer brochure filled with brew names and descriptions and provisions provided by Zapp’s Potato Chips & Utz, Cabot Cheese, and Kentwood Springs.

Parking is available for $10. The 2014 WYES beer shirt designed by Lauren Thom of Fleurty Girl can be purchased online and at both events for $25.

You must be 21 to attend. WYES encourages everyone to drink responsibly! United Cab is the official taxi of the WYES Beer Events.

All proceeds benefit WYES, your local public broadcasting station in southeast Louisiana and the Mississippi Gulf Coast.

WYES Salutes our Major Sponsors: Gordon Biersch, Mellow Mushroom, Cox Media and Sun Ray Grill. Thanks to our bus sponsors: Old Rail Brewing Co. and The Barley Oak.
