The Greater New Orleans Foundation hosts 24-hour online fundraiser with ‘GiveNOLA Day,’ May 6

Written by  Greater New Orleans Foundation
What is GiveNOLA Day?
Hosted on Tuesday, May 6 by the Greater New Orleans Foundation, GiveNOLA Day is the community’s first one-day, online giving event to inspire people to give generously to nonprofit organizations who make our region a stronger and thriving community for all.

Built on successful models from other cities, GiveNOLA raises money for the community, brings new donors to local nonprofits, and helps make our region a more vital place to live. This year GiveNOLA Day is tied to a national event called Give Local America where hundreds of community foundations across America are asking their communities to give back on May 6, 2014.
It’s our day to come together as one! Every dollar donated from midnight to midnight on May 6 will be increased with additional “lagniappe” dollars provided by the Greater New Orleans Foundation and our generous GiveNOLA Day sponsors to be distributed to nonprofit organizations serving Orleans Parish (and the GNOF region in Southeast Louisiana: Assumption, Jefferson, Lafourche, Plaquemines, St. Bernard, St. Charles, St. James, St. John the Baptist, St. Tammany, Tangipahoa, Terrebonne, Washington).

Every donation made on GiveNOLA Day will go even further because nonprofit organizations will receive a proportional amount of matching funds. The Foundation is working towards a goal of $100,000 for its local match, plus a chance to win an additional $50,000 in prizes.

How can I participate?
Everybody can participate on GiveNOLA Day. Individuals can make online donations to any participating nonprofits with a minimum of $10. All donations made on May 6 allows your favorite nonprofit or cause the opportunity to earn lagniappe dollars, prizes, and awards.

What nonprofits are participating?
Over 300 nonprofits in the Greater New Orleans Foundation are participating in GiveNOLA Day on May 6, 2014. The participating nonprofits are working on a broad range of issues: arts & culture, animal, education, community improvement, environment, health, human services, and youth development. All of the money raised will go toward programs and services benefitting our community.

Why is the Greater New Orleans Foundation hosting this event?
Our goal is encourage and grow philanthropy in New Orleans and its surrounding parishes. In these economic times, the need for funding has never been greater. Nonprofits are stretched to meet current needs. GiveNOLA Day is a tremendous help to build more community awareness about our exceptional nonprofits and to increase financial support for them. We’re growing the giving community by motivating donors to make an extra gift on this one day to help our local nonprofit organizations.

So, on May 6, go online to www.GiveNOLA.org anytime starting at midnight until 11:59 pm on Tuesday, May 6 and make gifts to all the nonprofits you want to support (the donation is charged to your credit card by Kimbia, the secure online giving provider). There will be a Leaderboard tab on the website – www.GiveNOLA.org – that will show dollars raised throughout the day, as well as a profile on each participating nonprofit, the number of donors who’ve made a gift, and the total number of dollars raised.

Together, we have the ability to raise one million dollars in just one day that will go far to improve the quality of life for many people in our community!
