More than 25,000 young entrepreneurs to participate in 7th annual ‘Lemonade Day Louisiana,’ May 6

Written by  IntheNOLA.com
Young entrepreneurs will be out in full effect Saturday, May 6 for the annual Lemonade Day Louisiana, showcasing their best lemonade skills and putting their entrepreneurial knowledge to work. From choosing the best location to creating a budget for materials and supplies, Lemonade Day gives young entrepreneurs their first lesson into the ins and out of running a small business.

“Lemonade Day Louisiana is a free, community-wide program that fosters entrepreneurship and character development among Louisiana’s youth ages 4-12 by supporting them in establishing and operating their lemonade businesses,” explained Malana M. Joseph Mitchell, Director of Public Relations for the Spears Group. “Essentially, we are opening up 25,000 new businesses on Lemonade Day.”
Lemonade Day entrepreneurs receive an Entrepreneur Workbook, “that teaches them the 15 lessons of Lemonade Day including creating budgets, setting profit-making goals, serving customers, repaying investors, and giving back to the community. Along the way, they acquire skills in goal setting, problem solving, and gain self-esteem critical for future success.”

Most Lemonade Day entrepreneurs bring in between $150-$250 in profit and can set up anywhere in the city (as long as they have permission from property and business owners). “Our youth turn into young entrepreneurs,” Malana continued. “Once the day is finished, they are advised to spend a little, save a little, and share a little by donating a portion of their proceeds to a local charity of their choice.”

“It’s been seven years since entrepreneurs Todd Graves and John Georges introduced the program to our state,” she added. “The program has touched nearly 100,000 kids since its inception in 2010. I am looking forward to those bright smiles and excited faces. These little entrepreneurs have worked so hard and this is the day that they will see all of their hard work pay off. I look forward to a true sugar rush on Lemonade Day Louisiana!”

Malana concluded, “On Lemonade Day Louisiana, everyone has an important job to do to support these future entrepreneurs. The entire community is encouraged to purchase lemonade from the many stands that will be set-up throughout the state on Saturday, May 6.”

On May 6, be prepared to sip your way through the city with Lemonade Day Louisiana. Get out and buy some lemonade from a budding entrepreneur!
