FirstLine Schools hosts ‘garden dining experience’ to support career and technical educational program, Oct. 12

Written by
FirstLine Schools will host its second annual garden dining experience, Dinner After the Bell, this evening, October 12 from 5:30pm-9:30pm at Samuel J. Green Charter School (2319 Valence St.).
Described as a “friendraising and fundraising event,” Dinner After the Bell, sponsored by Christian Rhodes and Roedel Parsons, “dinner will take place after the school bell at the flagship Edible Schoolyard Garden located at Samuel J. Green Charter School,” explained Ericka Windon, Development Manager & In House Counsel at FirstLine Schools. “Guests will be treated to a culinary experience provided by Edgar “Dook” Chase IV and Chef Gavin Goins with cocktails from Cane & Table under the grapevine trellis and next to the raised beds that our students grow and harvest sweet potatoes, herbs, and indigenous flowers, develop STEM skills, and learn about the natural world.”

She added, “We are so pleased to have Mr. Chase and his cousin, Chef Goins, provide the four course dining experience. The Chase family has been a part of the FirstLine Schools family since the first seeds were planted at the Samuel Green garden.”
This year’s Dinner After the Bell event will benefit the NOLA Tech program at Joseph S. Clark Preparatory High School. “NOLA Tech is FirstLine Schools’ rigorous career and technical education program at Joseph S. Clark Preparatory High School,” Ericka explained. “The program offers compelling pathways to Clark Prep students who are interested in being prepared for entrance into a high-demand, high-wage industry immediately upon graduation from high school. NOLA Tech offers industry-recognized culminating credentials. The pathways offered include digital media and entertainment, health sciences, skilled crafts and trades, business management, ProStart culinary arts, and fashion design. Furthermore, we are pleased to have a few of our students from the culinary track participating in the event by helping the chef prepare, plate, and serve the food.”
Ericka concluded, “Guests can look forward to great food, great conversations, and a beautiful setting. Come out to learn more about FirstLine Schools and our vision of every child in New Orleans going to a great school and to mixing and mingling with other civic-minded New Orleanians!”
