Celebrating the ‘Art and Soul’ of New Orleans at NOCCA’s annual gala Sunday, May 18

Written by
The New Orleans Center for Creative Arts, or NOCCA as it’s more affectionately known, is one of the true gems of this city. Founded in 1973, NOCCA has produced some of the most talented New Orleanians we all know and love…musicians Trombone Shorty and Wynton and Branford Marsalis, artist Terrance Osborne, actor Wendell Pierce, and IntheNOLA’s very own, LaTesha Charbonnet Gonzales, just to name few!
From its humble beginnings Uptown on Perrier St. to the state-of-the-art building in the Marigny, NOCCA continues to educate our youth and support and encourage the creative arts that our city has so much of.  And this coming Sunday, NOCCA is opening its doors to the community and inviting the community to continue to support the arts with their annual fundraiser, the 2014 Art & Soul Gala.
The Art & Soul Gala, put on by NOCCA’s non-profit The NOCCA Institute and title sponsor The Lupin Foundation, is NOCCA’s largest annual fundraiser, which raises money for several of the programs, financial aid for students, artists-in-residence, and faculty salaries. Last year's gala was a great kickoff to NOCCA's exciting campus expansion, and the party continues this spring with a special celebration of the construction of the new NOCCA Forum."
Like any good New Orleans party, the Art & Soul Gala will have plenty of food, drink, and entertainment. Enjoy food by the Hilton New Orleans Riverside, hors d'oeuvres and sangria by the Culinary Arts Department, special edibles by The Boxcar (The NOCCA Institute's new food truck), and specialty drinks by Plum Street Snoballs. And be prepared to be entertained by "beloved local talent of NOCCA students, faculty, and alumni, including Young Alum Co-Chairs Alexis Marceaux and Sam Craft and their band, Alexis and The Samurai, the NOCCA Alumni Allstars, the NOCCA Jazz Trio, NOCCA Musical Theatre Students, and a NOCCA Cabaret, with performances by students from a wide range of NOCCA arts departments. The Art & Soul Gala will also feature the NOCCA Marketplace for the third year, which includes merchandise made by students in various NOCCA departments."
As you can see, the Art & Soul Gala promises to be a night of showcasing the wonderful things happening at NOCCA. Come out and enjoy the talent and success of so many artists that call this city home.

Special thanks to The Lupin Foundation, Iberia Bank, The Arlene & Joseph Meraux Charitable Foundation, First NBC Bank, Otto Candie's, and the James P. Raymond, Jr. Foundation for their support of NOCCA's Art & Soul Gala.
